Friday pm - 'Answers to Questions About the Last Days'

This format seems unusual. Like a 'Questions From Readers' at the DC. Have they ever done anything like this before?

I get a feeling there is going to be some 'new light' in this talk (or just spinning the same old nonsense in a slightly different way.)

This shows that the rank and file are increasingly asking questions on this matter, mostly: why is the end taking so long to come; why do you keep flip-flopping on the meaning of 'the generation'; why are the anointed suddenly increasing? It shows that the pressure is mounting on the Society to respond to the growing questioning and disillusionment spreading through the organisation (fat chance).

All the talks about being caught in a trap, etc, will no doubt be focused on avoiding independent, apostate thinking.

If I'm gonna read a book about the bible.....

i finished rereading bart ehrman's misquoting jesus and found that it is a pretty good book.. i just checked out another by him, lost christianities, and am just beginning to read that.. what other books might you suggest to someone interested in topics such as: the history of the bible, the history of religion and christianity and even further reading on textual criticism?.

It's completely wrong to say that Paul got his authority from the apostles and older men in Jerusalem. Paul got his authority by direct revelation from Christ, or claimed to. In fact he did not go to Jerusalem for 2 years after his conversion.

And where in the book of Revelation is there the slightest hint to any 'Governing Body'. If there was a first century GB, then why did Jesus give his messages direct to each congregation.

You have to pity the 7 million idiots who suffer this cultic brainwashing and idolatry of men every Sunday.

WTWizard, it is really necessary to use such shamelessly irreverent and vile language when speaking about Jehovah. I find your post very offensive and it's probably an abuse of the forum rules.

Such language completely turns genuinely curious JW's off websites like this. Maybe you are a bitter and twisted hater of God but many members on this forum and lurkers still have belief in Jehovah/God.

What an absolute yawn. It's like a typical dull Service Meeting sales pep-talk article from the 'Our Kingdom Ministry' which for some reason has found its way into the Watchtower as a study article!

Absolutely pathetic if this is spiritual food at the proper time. Look at all the incredible events in the world and this is the best that the unimaginative, clueless old farts on the Writing Committee can serve up.

It's about as exciting as an insurance company weekly sales meeting; actually those are probably more interesting because at least business sales meetings aren't a question and answer thing read verbatim from a magazine.

There is something seriously wrong with these dullards to sit there year after year after year considering such tripe in a question and answer format for 45 mins on a Sunday. Good god.

They will never get rid of 1914. They will continue to focus less on it and eventually finally admit that Jesus didn't become king in 1914, an embarrassingly obvious point to everyone except JWs ('emperors new clothes'). But it will always be taught as the starting point for the 'last days' and the 'composite sign'.

What is the question in the QFR? Are they asking whether the 1914 teaching is still valid?

2008 Service Reports 236 Lands preached......No China...No Korea

the 2008 service reports shows that jehovah's witnesses preached in 236 lands.

the preaching work is banned in communist countries such as china(which have over 1.3 billion people) and korea.

there might be underground preaching work but not enough to even cause a concern.. my question: how does the wts explain what will happen to all these people who will never hear their message?

Good post Lukewarm. The taskmasters at Brooklyn must keep telling JW's that everyone's eternal salvation depends on them continuing to preach the JW message. But for public consumption, on their website, they must tone this ridiculous position right-down to a more palateable level. And in so doing you can start to see the glaring contradiction and absurdity of it all.

Notice on their website they say "Jesus said we should not be judging one another" but in last weeks Watchtower they said that two billion persons in Christendom are workers of lawlessness and face imminent destruction.

The 7th creative day and the 1000 yr. reign--isn't the BORG still on the hook with 1975?

the borg has simultaneously used several lines of reasoning in conjunction with one another to argue that we are "in the last days" period of time.

the sequence of events is supposed to be: "the last days," armageddon, and then immediately christ's millenial reign (1000 years).. as i recall one of the pieces of evidence the borg used to bolster the argument for armageddon coming in 1975 was that the period of the 7 creative days was supposed to end up spanning 49,000 years.. according to the "paradise" book and other 50s and 60s publications the 7 creative days started after the earth had been here for a very long time.

each of the 7 creative days was supposed to be 7,000 years long.. god created adam & eve at the very end of the 6th creative day.
